A close collaboration of SGK/SSC and SGUM/SSUM to assure high quality POCUS in Switzerland

Ultrasound imaging techniques are on the rise. During the last years, many medical disciplines have implemented ultrasound examinations into their standard curriculum and even in medical school anatomy is tought by dint of ultrasound. Part of this trend is the concept of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). The Swiss Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (SSUM) has implemented POCUS certificates for 14 different modules. Two of them involve the adult heart: transesophageal and transthoracic focused cardiac ultrasound. Therefore, the SSC strengthened its collaboration with the SSUM to ensure a high quality of focused cardiac ultrasound in Switzerland. At present, several members of the working group echocardiography and cardiac imaging of the SSC hold positions in the SSUM. Simon Stämpfli is the president of the Heart Section of the SSUM. Pierre Monney and Samuel Gujer are members of the same board and members of the POCUS education committee of the SSUM. This close collaboration and the many SSC members participating in the Heart Section of the SSUM and in teaching are pivotal to ensure high quality heart POCUS in Switzerland.   ·
