The SIWF Board approved the completely revised continuing education program in September 2021 with the involvement of the directors of the continuing education centers. In the optimal case, the program with the contents adapted to the ESC Core Curriculum and structured according to the principle of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) as well as the revised criteria for the training centers will become effective on July 1, 2022. The evaluation of candidates using EPAs, on the other hand, will first have to be tested at pilot clinics. The cardiology clinics of Cardiocentro, HUG, Inselspital Bern, KSSG as well as USZ have agreed to do so. SIWF and SGK are working closely together in the preparation of this system change - the SGK is doing pioneering work here. Accompanying the revision of the continuing education program, intensive discussions have taken place between the SGK board and the SCCP regarding the introduction of the focal points. A solution is within reach. In January, initial discussions will now follow with representatives of the smaller and medium-sized hospitals before the dialogue with the working groups is resumed. At the general meeting, a contingency project group was approved - shortly before the new admission restrictions for physicians came into effect nationally on 01.07.21. The question of how many cardiologists are needed also concerns the authorities. The Obsan/Federal Statistical Office is in the process of developing calculation models that should provide concrete results by summer 2022. The SGK would do well to form its own opinion on the subject and also to consider the means of control at its disposal. Accordingly, the project group has now begun its work.
